I’m so happy with how this little blue robot is turning out! He’s been my buddy, hanging out on my desk. It’s always neat when a plushie starts to get personality as it heads towards completion. Right now it still looks pretty spidery, but tomorrow I’ll be working on the details that make it look more like a robot. Those embellishments are going to be done in paint and felt– the crochet part is done now.
I love seeing a doll go from a picture to ideas in my head to an actual 3D shape! In the top picture you can see the blueprint my husband and I came up with; we always draw these to-scale for custom plushies like this because it helps with visualizing size and shape. Next to that are my notes for this doll. I never use a pattern for things like this, so I write down the crochet stitches as I go along.
